George Harrison

George Harrison was born February 25th, 1943. He had two brothers and one sister, and his family was very close-knit. His father Harry, drove a bus. When George was 13, his mother bought his guitar and he taught himself to play, listening to and learning American rock and roll songs. After meeting up with the other Beatles and rising to fame, in 1964 he met his future wife, model Patti Boyd, on the set of “A Hard Day’s Night.” They married in 1966. George befriended guitarist Eric Clapton, who Patti eventually married after her divorce from George. In 1970, George released his first solo record, a three record set called “All Things Must Pass.” It included may of the songs George had written while a Beatle but was never able to record due to limited album space dominated by Lennon-McCartney tunes. His number one hit, “My Sweet Lord” bore an eerie resemblance to the Chiffons’ “He’s So Fine” and George was sued for plagiarism. The song was inspired by his deep faith in the Hare Krishna religion, which he promoted throughout his career. He enjoyed top ten successes throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s and ‘90s. In 1978, George married Olivia Arias, shortly after the birth of their son, Dhani. Also in 1978, George formed Handmade Films and went on to produce several Monty Python-related movies. In 1988, he formed supergroup, the Traveling Wilburys, with friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. In 1999, a crazed fan broke in his mansion and brutally stabbed him almost to death. Olivia fought off the attacker and George eventually recovered. On November 29th, 2001, George died after a long battle with throat cancer.
